O Ministério do Meio Ambiente (MMA) entrou em estado de alerta para o período de queimadas que começa neste mês e se intensifica a partir de agosto. O secretário-executivo do MMA, Francisco Gaetani, começou uma série de reuniões com todos os setores envolvidos no combate aos incêndios florestais: Forças Armadas, Força Nacional, Polícia Federal, Polícia Rodoviária Nacional, Defesa Civil, ICMBio, Ibama, Prevfogo, entre outros.
A meta é unificar as ações de combate às queimadas e aos incêndios florestais, que geralmente são provocados pela ação humana, muitas vezes devido a renovação de pastagens (pratica pré-histórica ainda utilizada no Brasil, país em processo de desenvolvimento) e litígio com o próprio IBAMA. Para que o Brasil possa legitimar as ações de combate as queimadas e os incêndios florestais não adianta os esforços do governo se não houver a consciência da população (um trabalho conjunto entre o Governo e a Sociedade).
O Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Especiais - Inpe (também em alerta) já colocou à disposição da população informações diárias sobre a situação das queimadas em todo o País. Na página da internet estão reunidas todas as informações que mostram passo a passo a evolução desses focos de queimada. O endereço está presente no menu esquerdo do site do Inpe em "Queimadas".
O site é conhecido como "Mapa do Fogo", é um importante instrumento para os governos federal, estadual e municipal que poderão, não só agir no combate, mas na prevenção dos incêndios, antes que eles se tornem de grandes proporções, trazendo prejuizos para a saúde, sociedade e os ecossistemas.
